Annually the CVFOA membership selects an active CVFOA official that represents the qualities of past CVFOA official, Ed Thornton. These qualities include possessing a good attitude, enjoying the game, having good rules knowledge, being a positive role model, giving back to the CVFOA and its membership by helping develop new officials, and, most of all, remembering that the game is for the participants.
This most prestigious award for a CVFOA official recognizes the award winners personal integrity and character and his commitment to football officiating. The “Easy Ed” award is voted on by the membership near the conclusion of each season and is presented to the CVFOA official by Keith Thornton at the annual meeting in early November.
The CVFOA maintains a perpetual “Easy Ed” Award trophy that engraves all the past award winner’s names.
